We welcome Jamieson and Smith all Shetland wool yarn to CeCe's Wool with these wonderful Katie's Kep kits.  Jamieson and Smith makes a 2-ply jumper weight (fingering) in over 90 colors.  Each ball of Shetland wool yarn is wound into 25 gram balls of 125 yards.  This listing is for kits that we put together for Katie's Kep a free colorwork hat pattern celebrating Shetland Wool Week (Sept. 26 - Oct. 4).  While the activities planned for Shetland Island have been cancelled due to the pandemic, you can still celebrate Shetland Wool Week by casting on one of these beautiful hats designed by Wilma Malcolmson.  Malcolmson adds, "Katie’s Kep is named after my mother Katie, who taught me these patterns when I was a peerie lass because they were her favourites. She belonged to that large group of professional knitters, without whom our Shetland colour work and lace heritage might not have been as alive and vibrant as it is today. This is my tribute to all the known and unknown designer artists of Shetland throughout the centuries."

Each kit contains six 25 gram balls of Jamieson and Smith Shetland Wool, fingering weight yarn.  We made some substitutions from the original yarn used in the samples.  Each kit is $25.00.

    Great yarn, great colors

I got colourways 1 and 4. This is my first purchase from Cece's Wool and Jamieson and Smith yarn. I'm very happy with the color combinations, and the yarn is easy to work with and the pattern definition is very good.

    Lovely "wooly" wool

I ordered this kit to try my hand at Fair Isle knitting. After years of knitting with all types of yarn, I've decided I prefer this Shetland handspun. It sounds a bit whacky, but you feel a lot closer to the sheep, it's a more natural experience. Love it!

I love this hat pattern. Got it 5 days ago and almost done. I'm pretty sure ( I have weighed whats left in the 25 gm balls) that i will have enough of all pattern colors left to make a second hat if i just get 50 gms more of the main color!
