Leaf Voter Suppression Behind is a colorway designed by Adella Colvin of LolaBean Yarn Co. It's Adella's interpretation of a pile of leaves in the fall. It's also a symbolic nod to the work being done by Fair Fight Action, a group started by Stacy Abrams to stamp out voter suppression. For each skein sold, $5 will be donated and matched by CeCe Tkaczyk of CeCe's Wool, and Adella Colvin of LolaBean Yarn Co. That's a total of $15 for each skein going to Fair Fight Action.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a limited pre-order of this yarn. Pre-orders will be dyed and sent the first week in December. (If there are any skeins left over after Rhinebeck weekend, we will fill as many of the pre-orders as possible.)
There are two weights of this fabulous yarn - Soy Bean and Navy Bean.
Soy Bean is a 4 ply DK Weight 100% Superwash Merino, 231 yards, 100 g
Navy Bean is a 2 ply Fingering Weight 100% Superwash Merino, 400 yards, 100 g
Voter suppression takes many forms -- long lines, broken machines, misinformation, missing poll data, closed polls, no affidavit ballots, etc. Efforts to deny eligible voters the right to vote have increased in response to the historic voter turnout in 2020. Just this year, 19 states have enacted 33 laws to make it harder for citizens to vote. Hurdles to vote have historically and continue to be focused on minority communities and poor neighborhoods. Now, more than ever, we must stand up for our democracy and ensure that everyone who is eligible is able to register and vote without obstructions.
In Adella's words: I see lots of folks, more specifically *white folks* telling people that if they want true change and social equality, they should vote. While that is absolutely true, and sounds so cool and important, y’all need to understand that VOTING ISN’T AS ACCESSIBLE OR EASY TO DO FOR BLACK, BROWN AND POOR FOLKS. So before you fix your lips to tell people to “just vote” or fix your fingers to type it, understand that our voting system was built to exclude black and brown folks and it’s not easy for a lot of folks to “just vote.” HELP MAKE VOTING FAIR AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. Then feel free to tell people to “just vote.”
Thank you for being engaged -- get out and vote and make sure others have the same opportunity to do so. For those who can, there are lots of ways to support voter registration drives and get involved with organizations like Fair Fight Action. Remember, just because voter suppression is not happening to you, does not mean it's not happening.
