We love our local wool fill! We asked a local batting mill to keep the wool looser and to not form it into batting. This puffier wool keeps its shape longer and is what we use to stuff our wool filled pillows. The wool comes from sheep farms located in New York State. Primary wool breed is Cheviot. Perfect for stuffing toys or to make your own pillows.
We wash the wool with only hot water and biodegradable soap.
Wool is a wonderful all natural fill material that's sustainable, renewable and biodegradable. Wool also has characteristics that are beneficial. Because wool absorbs moisture, it keeps the area dry and dust mites don't like it. Dust mites want a moist and warm environment so they naturally stay away from wool.
Is wool filling cheaper than polyester fill and 'alternative down' fill? No, but it's better for you and the planet. Polyester filling takes hundreds of years to decompose and creates micro-plastics that pollute our oceans and the environment.
