Customers have been asking for red yarn to make the Melt the Ice hat to support the folks demonstrating against ICE in Minneapolis.
The pattern was created by Paul Neary of needle and skein, a yarn shop in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
About the hat pattern: In the 1940s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tssel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute.
Each hat takes about 200 yards and it can be made with fingering, DK or worsted weight yarn.
Find the knitted and crochet version of this hat here. https://payhip.com/shopneedleandskein. Both are also available on Ravelry. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern go to local immigrant aid organizations who will distribute the funds to those impacted by the actions of ICE.
